EZFlash II FAQ
From EZ-Flash Wiki
As the EZFlash1/2 FAQS were no longer updated on the ezflash.cn forums it has been moved here.
FAQ originally by ATMB and KidICE, modifications by FAST6191 and whoever has played around with it since.
Sill very much a work in progress.
Preface
EZFlash I and EZFlash II Frequently Asked questions
This page is intended to answer a few of the more commonly asked questions. To answer every single small question (or indeed some of the bigger ones) very thoroughly would result in a very large and nearly unreadable document as such any topics which need additional coverage will be linked to either as articles within this wiki or if necessary external websites which should be able to give more information.
Generic Cart Questions
What is The EZFlash II Powerstar, EZFlash II, EZFlash I?
They belong to a series of flash carts made by the EZTeam for use with the Gameboy Advance / Gameboy Advance SP / Gameboy Micro / GBPlayer / Nintendo DS. It works with all of them and supports commercial ROMs on both the GBA and the DS (with certain extra hardware/modifications) as well as any other system supported by emulation.
You can also use it to dump your commercial GBA carts and assuming the carts do not use EEPROM as a saving method you can back up the save games from them.
With it you can flash your home-brew programs and Commercial ROMs for the GBA and if you have an Passme or a DS with Flashme you can run commercial DS clean roms and homebrew code.
I understand, but what is the difference between the 3 carts?
The EZFlash I was the first cart by the EZTeam, with more detail about the features of it available on the article linked. They vary in size from 128mbit (16mbytes) to 512mbit (64mbytes). The EZFlash II Cart was the second to come, and has since been effectively replaced by the EZFlash II Power Star which is for all intensive purposes is the same as an EZ2 with chips that use lower voltage and so cause the battery in your hardware to last longer, you will likely not be able to find a non-powerstar version.
Sizes of the EZFlash II are 128mbit (with 4mbit loader section), 256mbit, 512mbit and 1024mbit.
Is there a website? a forum?
There exists an official English site and official English forum, Sosuke's also hosts a dedicated EZFlash support forum and there also exists an IRC channel on irc.irchighway.net called #ezflash.
If you understand Chinese language you can go to the VERY good Chinese site (and forum).
Where should I buy it?
There are some sites from which you can order, it is up to you in the end but some sites are good and some you would do well not to buy from.
The relative merits of each shop could be debated for a long time without a clear conclusion, just bear in mind shops in Hong Kong and other Asian countries may cause you to have to pay import taxes, may take a while shipping and be expensive at that and returns may be difficult, many have and do use such places without any trouble though.
The old adage “if it sounds too good to be true it probably is” is more than applicable today.
reseller ratings is however a great place to find out information on any prospective places you may wish to buy from.
If however you want a simple recommendation Jandaman is a great site from which to order your equipment.. Other shops that deal the carts are shown in the Official dealers list.
It should however be said that NEVER, EVER order from Linker World SHOP! They confuse EZFlash II and EZFlash Advance, are SLOW on shipping and a lot of people had bad experiences with these guys! Avoid them. Linker4u.com does not have a good reputation either.
Driver Section (Installation Guide, troubleshooting and upgrading)
Basics over it is now time to get onto the fun parts.
Where can I download the Windows 95/98/98SE/NT/2000/ME/XP USB Linker Driver?
On the official site and on the mirror and alternate forum at Sosuke's It is generally worth getting the latest versions of EZClient,
There is no support for 64bit versions of Windows, no Mac clients (Virtual PC is known to work however) and no Linux support. Versions of Windows above Windows 95 should be supported by the one client, windows XP being your best bet for good support.
EZFlash I and EZFlash II INSTALL GUIDE
Basic EZFlash Install/Operation
Depending on where you live you may not have got a CD with your EZFlash kit, and thus no instructions on what to do with it. Hopefully this should cover the basics of how to get your EZFlash kit set up and ready to go.
Get the stuff out of the box would be the obvious start and while it is a cool box, it is not what you bought an EZFlash for (unless you are a very sad person, and in that case you have the pity of us all).
It should consist of the EZFlash cart, a linker (that square thing you can plug the cart into), a USB cable, and as possibly a mini CD containing drivers (go online and grab the latest ones though: Sosukes will be your best bet).
Now to install the drivers for the linker.
If you are comfortable with doing it by hand, just copy the files in the folder labeled "USB_Drivers" in the folder you installed EZClient to WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS , you might as well copy the .inf file to windows\inf as well. Having done this connect the USB cable and linker without the cart in it to a USB port.
Do not connect it to a USB hub, it will not work with a USB hub.
You can now install by hand or use a wizard, either way your cart will be installed shortly.
Note:
There are now 3 different types of linker/cradles available with EZ-Carts versions 1,2 and 3.
Version 1 came with EZ1 and EZ2 carts version 2 came with earlier models of the EZ3 version 3 comes with newer EZ1 and EZ2 and EZ3's.
You will not have a version 2 linker but you if you have just recently got your cart may have a version three: to this end if you have just downloaded the new software or have just got your cart run the EZMode program and if it comes up grey just close it, if not select the type of cart you have. You should only have to do it once too.
The light on the linker should go from red to green and you can now you can pop that cart into the linker and... Wait.
You are eager to use it I am sure, but it is best to charge the battery in the cart before you start using it.
Leave your computer on and the linker plugged in with the EZCart in it for 8 hours: see you in 8 hours, read the rest of this FAQ and if you happen to want to run Nintendo DS code read this article: DS commercial roms (running) and general usage.
In the words of a great TV advert "tick follows tock follows tick follows tock".
I already have a driver installed, how can I update it without pain?
Simply just unplug your linker copy the contents of the sysbin directory of the EZClient download over the old one into your C:\windows\system32\drivers\ folder (assuming you have Windows installed on the c:\ drive).
Restart windows and you are done!
Troubleshooting
Why do I have to reinstall the drivers every time I connect the EZ Cart to the PC while under Windows XP?
That is likely because you did not install the drivers with Administrator rights. You must login as Administrator, install the drivers and apply it to every user.
Cart Section
What about cart official technical specifications? Size, saving...
These are official manual explanations:
All 128M, 256M and 512M and 1024M EZ-Cart are standard GBA cartridge size.
For the 128Mbit and 256Mbit capacity carts, the capacity of saver is 2Mbit. For the capacity of 512Mbit carts, the capacity of saver is 4Mbit.
All three saving modes are supported (EEPROM, Flash and SRAM), import and export for all saving modes and sizes are supported.
All saving modes are supported by software, so you only need to update your software to accommodate future new saving mode.
The rechargable battery in cart is there to support saving, no need to change battery, the battery life is likely even longer than the flash chips.
Perfect compatibility, no saver/speed/crash patch needed, all third-party GBA applications and emulation supported.
* Commercial DS rom support is still in early stages so it is not perfect, the GBA support is however essentially perfect.
Powerful power saving, the battery run-down life of GBA with EZFlash carts is close to official cart on most games.
Well...and what about saver battery? How should I charge it, how often, how much does it last?
A popular question: The life of the built in rechargeable battery is more than 3 years. We have official word from EZTeam on this question: the battery is a lithium-ion one, so it can be charged any time with no need for it to be empty. A full charge lasts for about 3 weeks, so it is good to charge it once every 15/20 days, and it can be charged by leaving it plugged into the linker for about 8 hours...so, just leave it all night long once every 2 or 3 weeks: there will be no risk of losing your saves.
There is a way to change the battery, just replace it with one of the same sort making sure to observe polarity, you will however void the warranty so be warned!
Why am I unable to write 2 128Mb ROM in my 256Mb EZ II cart simultaneously?
To write more than one rom to your cart you need a loader program which occupies about 2Megabit of ROM in the cart, so the capacity of 256Megabit cart becomes a bit less than 256Mb.
Most roms have junk code towards the end of the file due to the type of memory they use which can be deleted and is often more than enough to accomodate the loader.
- 256mbit DS users, some ROMs need code added to the start which can cause a 256mbit rom to be unable to fit, Animal Crossing is a good example. You can however hack the rom to accommodate this.
EZClient Section
First up basic usage of EZClient, for more advanced things the section The more advanced features of EZFlash Products (SMS,skinning, cheats etc) should be of help.
Running GBA roms
Cart charged? Launch EZClient <cue angels singing/ monkeys dancing or your own paticular mental image of a nice time>...
EZClient should recognize your EZCart and we should be ready to start burning images to your cart. Now for some basics.
Get yourself some GBA ROM images to burn (Nintendo DS rom users you shall be gotten around to, once again DS commercial roms (running) and general usage should help you out although this section covers the basics you should want to know anyway).
Do not ask where, that is your problem*. You may want to try backing up your own carts, a search engine and some clever search strings, IRC or the newsgroups or some public domain roms.
- Kazaa and its variants as well as limewire, shareaza, bearshare are evil so do yourself a favour and do not use them.
If you still can not find them a new hobby such a drooling may help pass the time.
If they are compressed as a single zip/rar (sites sometimes zip roms twice to save space/bandwidth and evade detection), go ahead and leave them that way. If they are not zipped and you like wasting hard drive space leave them that way they will work too.
First go to the System Config menu. Make sure "Use loader" option is checked and the rest are not. The rest shall be explained later, do you even know what SMS is yet?
That done, click the shopping cart icon (Open ROM) and select some GBA ROM images to burn. Fill the cartridge up (or do not).
Keep in mind that your EZFlash cart is sized in Megabits and on your hard drive they're in Megabytes. There are 8 Mb to 1 MB, so that 4 MB unzipped image is going to translate to 32 Mb's on your cart.
If you change your mind about the images you want to burn delete them with the garbage can. This icon will always delete the bottom item on the list. This is normal part of the nature of flash cartridges, not counting the EZFlash III, and there is not anything that can be done to fix it, so do not ask.
When you burn the images they are going to show up in the EZLoader menu as whatever appears in the "ROM Chinese name" or the "ROM English name" if nothing appears in the "ROM Chinese name" field. The XCode updates you may see mentioned when you first launch EZClient are a list of game names.
If you do not want that to be what comes up in the EZLoader menu change it by clicking in the "ROM Chinese name" field and typing in what you would like to appear as instead, before you burn.
Now click burn and wait. The light on your linker should go red and stay that way until the burn is done. Do not remove the cart or unplug the linker while the red light is on. Depending on the size of your cart and the amount of data you are putting on it, it is probably going to be a while.
Which due to the fact your cart is in the linker means you likely can not use your GBA (now you have a EZFlash kit spare time/boring moments.... will be passed with it) oh the irony.
If you have save files from say, Visual Boy Advance(1) or backed up from your own games you can add them to your cart. When the burn is finished add the saves by selecting the image from the ROM List, then clicking the folder/floppy disk icon (Write Saver) and then selecting the save.
Repeat for each image you have a save to write..
(1)Visual Boy Advance (or one of its many variants) gamesaves, not instant saves or other unusual saves that VBA might support.
Now, slap the cart in your GBA hardware and give it a go. You should get a menu with the images you burned to your cart on it.
Before you pick one you might want to set the clock (those who use the DS loader will have the time come from the DS and EZFlash I users who do not use the DS loader will not have this option.
From the EZLoader menu hit the Start button and set the clock and press A, you will be back to the EZLoader menu.
Now on to the games.
Most images will load by selecting them with A, but if for some reason they crash or give you problems, power down your Gameboy and try again this time with the B button, this will reset the GBA before loading your selection.
Running Nintendo DS Roms.
A new addition the EZFlash series of carts, first read up on the GBA section above as nearly all of it corresponds to DS roms. Next read the article DS commercial roms (running) and general usage if you have not already as it will give you some insight into the process.
As all DS roms (some of the E3 demos aside) have to be patched to run (and save) this time it is more than strongly advised you use the latest versions of EZClient and patchdll.dll (rather than issuing a new version of EZClient the EZTeam frequently just update the patchdll.dll patching mechanism).
I also assume you have a DS that has had flashme run upon it or you are using an Passme (or a correctly flashed EZPass 2/Passme2 should you need it), WifiMe will not work with EZClient and commercial roms so you will have to use WifiMe to run flashme (flashme is painless and easy to run and enhances your DS so you might as well do it).
Simply burn the DS rom as you would a GBA one, if you want multiple DS roms or mixed(*) GBA and DS ROMs then you will have to enable “use NDS loader” in the system config pulldown menu.
(*)Using the DS loader will mean that you can not use your cart on a GBA or a DS without a passme or flashme
Assuming EZClient supports the rom you will see a nice new loader on your Nintendo DS with ROMs on the bottom screen, use the touch screen or select the rom and press a to start.
SMS is also available for the DS and its roms.
A nice thing about DS roms is they get quite large but they are generally easy to shrink so read DS commercial roms (running) and general usage for a guide and link to methods and tools to shrink roms.
Can I have EZClient Translated in my own language/Can I translate EZClient?
Yes see the Translations
What is the function of Auto Remove Intro?
It is used to remove intros added by release groups into the roms. Sometime, when you remove a well added intro, you get a "**** you" screen by the dumpers. You so have to IPS patch the rom if you want to get rid of that intro.
See the article clean roms for more info.
It is best to leave this option off and use something like GBATA see the article clean roms for more infomation and links or better yet make sure your ROMs are verified by a ROM checker such as OfflineList.
How can I write my SAV files on the cart?
If you have backed your .SAV files before changing ROMs on the cart and you want to put back them on it when you are re-playing to those games.
- First of all, prepare your cart, with all the ROMs you need, and burn them on the cart.
- Now you will have the working cart with you ROMs select the game you want, click on "write Saver" and select the correct save file for that game. Repeat for all the ROMs you want. Now click Burn and you are done.
- If usingVisual Boy advance saves they must be the standard in game saves (liek what you would get on a normal cart) not instant saves or gameshark ones.
Where can I download EZClient?
Either from the EZFlash homepage or as you will likely find it slow there Sosuke's will have them.
What is that "ar2cht.exe" file I got together with EZClient ?
It's an ACTION REPLAY Cheat file TO CHT file converter. If you have some Action Replay Cheat files you can easily convert them to be used within EZClient Release. Use the contained .pdf guide to learn how-to do it and read up on cheats in this wiki.
EZLoader Section
What is EZLoader?
EZLoader is the ROM-manager program that is flashed together with the roms on your cart, and lets you set the RTC (Real Time Clock), ENABLE and DISABLE cheats, and of course START games, use SMS,.
How can I get EZLoader latest version?
Assuming you selected "use loader" or if you are using it for DS software the "use NDS loader" from the system config menu the version used will be the one that comes with EZClient which will be the latest if you have the latest software.
Should you not want to update EZClient for some reason you can also do the following:
EZClient: Click the pulldown menu System Config followed by Software UpData option in it.
exit and reload flashing program (to load new files in RAM) and then Format your Cart and RE-WRITE files in it, so EZLOADER will be updated.
You said EZLoader has many functions, how can I use them?
The Loader commands are these:
A - Loads the ROM B - Soft resets, then loads the ROM (useful if ROMs crash in the other way)
Select - Time and Date Setting *the DS loader gets these from your DS
R - It ENABLES (Green) and DISABLES (Red) cheats, GoldenFinger must be enabled from EZClient for this to work. See ahead for help about this.
How about the IN-GAME functions? (cheats etc)
In EZClient, you can enable 2 tiny but useful features: Soft Reset and GoldenFinger
Soft Reset adds the Return To EZLoader Reset, and can be performed by pressing R+A+B+Select+Start (Where A+B+Select+Start would just reset the game)
Golden Finger enables cheats, which you have to select from the EZClient program, on the cart: You can enable and disable them on a rom by pressing R button: if the ROM is GREEN GoldenFinger is enabled, if it's RED it's disabled.
To switch cheats ON and OFF during play, you can press L+R+START to ENABLE cheats; L+R+SELECT to DISABLE cheats.
TECHNICAL INFO Be warned: previous register values will not be saved when you switch on cheats, so if the game does not update them, when you switch cheats off they will remain active since the game doesn't update does values. If the game checks those values and corrects them, you'll get best working from the key combos.
Further info on cheating can be found in the appropriate Category:Cheating section of the wiki.
I heard about BOMA - Boot-O-Mat Advance...what is this? How can I use it?
BOMA can cause trouble with linking and saving as well as stability.
BOMA does EXIT-HACK patching, that is, adds a piece of code into the ROM so that by pressing 4 keys you can reboot your rom, there are two different key combinations:
A+B+Select+Start takes you back to the beginning of the rom;
L+R+Select+Start takes you back to the loader, if present.
On occasion it works better than EZClient Softreset function, because it has detection routines of the good point in which to patch the ROM, while EZClient simply has a default patch to add in the ROM.
Activate USE BOMA in EZClient to use it.
Where can I find an EZLoader Screenshot? I am curious to see it in action
- to be updated to include screens of both DS and GBA loaders.
Although restricted in function you can run loader_GBA.bin (or simply loader.bin for pre-DS supporting EZClient versions) in an emulator such as VBAlink.
DS emulation is still in early stages (although progressing nicely) so I can not suggest or guarantee the loader_NDS.bin will work in one.
Can I change the ROM name in the EZLoader?
Not while you are actually in EZLoader but when you are about to flash the ROMs, click in the "Chinese Name" text box in the EZClient: you are able to edit the name as you wish!
Miscellaneous Section
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance (EURO or USA),Pokemon and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire do not save correctly! What can I do?
All this was resolved in a later version(s) of EZClient get the latest version and make sure you are not using a pre-patched ROM.
Do you have USB Linker Specs? I am curious
Depending on how technical you wish to get here is an answer:
- 61 x 62 x 21mm
- Standard USB interface, no external power needed, low power consuming, flexible and steady.
- Cartridge protection design, Any cartridge won't be physically damaged by pull or plug at any time.
- Backup for official and all compatible cartridge supported, and all savers except EEPROM backup from non EZ-Cart are supported.
- All functions and features is supported by software.
How can I use E-Reader Stuff on the EZ1/2
First of all, download all the saves to play from Trashman's site or browse the screenshots.
Then, simply follow these steps:
- 1. Get the EReader Loader 1.0 (JU)(Rising Sun).zip
- 2a. Patch 0619 - Card e-Reader (U)(Independent) using rs-erusa.ips
Or.
- 2b.Patch 0400_-_Card_e-Reader_(J)(Independent) using rs-erjpn.ips
- 3. Unzip the Complete e-Reader saves file, (link provided ^upper^)
- 4. Now you have to choose one of the SAV files and split it into a 64Kb file instead of the orginal 128Kb.
To do this, you can use TotalCommander or WinCommander or something else. TotalCommander Procedure:
- Right-click on .sav file
- Choose Files --> Split File..
- Type in 65536 in Bytes Per File
- Click OK
- 5. Now Flash your E-reader ROM file, then WRITE SAVER, and choose the second file you got by splitting the save-file
Troubleshooting - If it does not work try this:
- Do not use LOADER on your flashcart.
- Format your cart.
- Use an early EZClient.
Cart troubleshooting
The LED on my stays red. What can I do?
Here are some things to consider:
Always use the latest version of EZClient, check the sticky or the EZFlash home page or the headlines forum in Sosuke's for the latest version.
If you are running Windows XP make sure you at least have service pack 1 installed and are using the USB drivers provided there in and not using the USB drivers that came with your motherboard. Check in Device Manager to make sure, and replace any drivers that aren't by Microsoft with the ones in the service pack.
- DO NOT use a USB hub, your linker will not work if it is plugged in to one.
It might be a conflict/power drain caused by other hardware. Try removing your other USB devices and rebooting.
BIOS settings? There are too many motherboards and versions/brands of BIOS out there for me to discuss. You'll have to figure this out for yourself, sorry.
Try contacting the manufacturer.
Sometimes the light on the linker stays red too when the computer is first booted. To fix this disconnect the linker from the cable, reset the computer and reconnect the linker after Windows has started.
If you've followed the guide and tried the above there is a chance that your EZFlash kit is faulty. Contact your retailer.
The light turns green, but EZClient will not recognize my EZCart
There are now 3 different types of linker/cradles available with EZcarts 1,2 and 3.
Version 1 came with EZ1 and EZ2 carts version 2 came with earlier models of the EZ3 version 3 comes with newer EZ1 and EZ2 and EZ3's.
You will not have a version 2 linker but you may have a version three to this end if you have just downloaded the new software or have just got your cart run the EZmode program and if it comes up grey just close it, if not select the type of cart you have, you should only have to do it once too.
With EZClient running, the linker connected to your PC, LED green, etc insert your cart in the linker. The LED should change to red for a second while EZClient reads what's on the cart and then return to green. If it does not change to red then your linker has not recognized that you have inserted a cart.
First make sure you have got the cart in all the way: push it till it stops. The top of the cart should be just about level with the top of the linker. The fit is pretty snug, a little resistance is normal. It is about the same as putting it in to a Gameboy Advance. If you do not find any resistance when the linker and cart contacts come together, the linkers contacts are likely bent and you should exchange your EZFlash kit.
Second, make sure the contacts on your cart are clean. Scrubbing them with a soft eraser and then following up with some electrical contact cleaner should do the trick.
If that failed give the cart a little wiggle while it is still in the linker. It seems silly but it has worked for some.
- WARNING* Performing the next item WILL void your warranty. Do so at your own risk. If you do this and it does not help or you bung your cart while you are in there, do not expect the EZTeam or your retailer to exchange your cart for a new one.
It may be that you cart was improperly assembled (happens even with the "original" commercial carts). This being the case opening up the cart, reseating the PCB (printed circuit board) and reassembling it may do the trick.
It has worked for at least one brave soul who has tried.
Again this will void your warranty and likely make your retailer/EZFlash refuse to accept your returned kit. This is only something to try if your warranty is already void or returning your cart is impossible. If you do this and you find out your screwed do not complain to us.
Help I keep losing my saves
First, did you leave the cart in the linker (with your PC on) for 8 hours when you first got it? If not do so now.
For a start you may have a game that is not patched by EZClient, they are few and far between but they do exist: Super Monkey Ball on the GBA and quite a few on the DS currently have trouble saving.
The battery in the cart will charge in your GBA/GBM/GBPlayer/DS, but a lot slower than when it is in the linker. If you use your cart often it should stay charged on its own.
If not drop it in the linker for an hour or two from time to time to keep it topped up.
If you are doing all this and you are still losing saves consult the "Saver lost notice" sticky on the EZFlash.cn EZ1/2 forums.
I can not get {insert game here} to work.
Commercial GBA/Nintendo DS ROM images normally need to be patched (EZClient will do this) to run you may have one that currently is not supported. This is especially true for DS roms.
It also could be a bad dump. Try the ROM image in an emulator such as Visual Boy Advance. If it doesn't work there, this is likely the case. If you dumped it yourself, try again. If you didn't, find a new source and download it again.
There also exist various ROM checking tools: see clean roms for links.
If it works in VBA but not on your cart try selecting the game from the EZloader menu with the B button instead of the A button. This will reset the GBA before loading the image and will provide a slightly higher level of compatibility.
Still not working, corrupt saver, something else?
Your ROM probably needs to be patched. Most of the time EZClient will do this during the burn process, but it needs to be able to recognize the game to do so. This is one of the reasons it is important to use the latest version of EZClient as it will recognize the most (eg Newest) ROM images.
But how do I get Famicom Mini or Classic NES images to work?
These are some of the few GBA roms EZClient does not support, there are patches around No-Frills
However emulation exists for this very reason check out PocketNes (DS code users a DS port of pocketnes was made which has better scaling and such): GBAFan.
Are there other systems I can emulate or things to do on my GBA/DS with a flash cart
You have only just started check out the articles multimedia and emulation.
My EZCart is a 256 meg, but I can only put two games on it when the games are only 16 megs/My 256mbit rom will not fit
Carts and the data stored on them are measured in megabits (Mb), data on your hard drive is measured in megabytes (MB). There are 8 Mb to 1 MB, so your 256 Mb cart is actually 32 MB and those 16 MB images on your drive will be 128 Mb's on your cart.
Another thing to consider is that SMS, EZloader, a back drop and a logo all take up space on your cart. The more of those features you use the less space you will have for ROM images.
If you find you are just a few bits short of fitting that last ROM image on your card, try trimming the images you plan to burn by enabling the "Trim ROM" field for each ROM in EZClient or with a tool such as GBATA.
A few of the 256Mbit GBA roms have junk in the last few bytes before which there are 00's or FF's, you can usually safely delete the junk and then trim the 00's/FF's as usual.
Nintendo DS roms can also be more easily trimmed in size by removing, movies languages etc: see this thread for methods.
Megabit are the standard size used in flash carts: blame Nintendo, Sega, NEC and various other cartridge based console makers for sizing their games by megabits rather then bytes. Yes it was/is just to make their games sound bigger, but has now become the standard for measuring the size of cartridges and the images on them. EZFlash and other flash carts are just following the industry standard for rating their carts.
When I stick a "real/original/official" cart in the linker the LED blinks repeatedly
This seems to be a common problem which no one seems to know how to fix, you can still back up your carts though: you are just going to have to be quick.
It has been suggested that this is due to official carts PCB's being thinner than the EZFlash ones: the solution is to put a business card or two behind the cart when you put it in the linker.
To back up your originals you are just going to have to be quick. Time your click on "Read ROM" so that it is when EZClient is recognizing the cartridge . It WILL back up your game. The same can by done for the cart's saver with the "BAK Save" button.
Why can I not backup or write my save to my original {insert game here}?
There are three saver types for GBA carts: SRAM, Flash and EEPROM. Currently EZClient does not support backup from EEPROM saves (and likely never will).
ADVANsCEne is a good site and if you use it OfflineList is a good program to look up what type of saver a game uses.
Can I use regular Gameboy or Gameboy Color games on my EZFlash?
Goomba is a Gameboy (non-Color) emulator for the GBA and is supported by EZClient. If a GB/C ROM works in a regular Gameboy/Gameboy pocket then it should work in Goomba.
If it is Gameboy Color only game you will have to use the new version of Goomba check out GBAFan for details.
Multi boot/GBA-GameCube linkup games, why will they not work?
First make sure you are using the official Nintendo link cable, 3rd party cables are often flaky and a source of problems you may not initially see.
Second, make sure you do not enable soft reset or patch the image with BOMA,clean roms are less likely to give you grief too.
