I am new to the EZFlash IV ‘Phat’ but I have encountered an issue that I am hoping the forum can help me with. I am using a 2gb micro sd card and mini sd card adaptor and a GBA Micro. The memory card has been correctly configured and I am using the EZ4 Client software as per the tutorial I found on this forum. Most ROM files are easily transferred and work correctly.

I have found that a few ROMs including, but not limited to, Gunstar Super Heroes, Final Fantasy IV, Final Fantasy V, Final Fantasy VI, Pokemon Emerald, and Tales of Phantasia when selected for transfer to the memory card, do not display a ROM name in the top left corner (completely blank) of the EZ4 Client software, though all other details such as ROM size, save type and size are shown below where the ROM name is normally displayed.

When one of these files is transferred to the memory card, it displays the file as “.gba” when either looking at the directory on my PC or when using the GBA.

The corresponding save file in the Saver folder, displays as “.sav”

If I try to transfer another one of these files, it seems to overwrite the previous. I have tried a couple of alternatives. The first was to rename the file and corresponding save file on the memory card (post transfer), however, when I switched on the GBA I was shown an error message when trying to access the folder where the ROM files are. Deleting the renamed files fixed this problem.

I next tried to name the files using the top left box of the EZ4 client, keeping the names fairly short. So for example, I named Gunstar Super Heroes, “Gunstar.” The file transferred across and it named the .sav file “gunstar.sav.” I tried this with four ROM files at the same time, Gunstar, Final Fantasy V, Pokemon Emerald and Tales of Phantasia. Something obviously went very wrong, as I would only see a black screen when turning on the GBA, never even reaching the menu screen. Deleting the files did not fix the problem and I was forced to reformat the micro sd and got through the whole set up process again. Once again, most ROMs transfer fine and work, but the same ones are still failing to show a name and transfer.

Any suggestions? Has anyone encountered this problem before? A problem with the ROM perhaps? Missing headers or the like?

Thanks

If it has a .gba as a name it is because it does not have the ROM in the database of GBA games but all of those should be there. I did keep a list more or less up to date (I think it might lack those handful of releases we have got in the last few years) and most ROM hacks should not trouble it either (there were are handful of early hacks that changed things here but most things do not touch the relevant parts of the header). http://filetrip.net/nds-downloads/flash ... f4753.html should have it all bundled.

Also those microSD to miniSD adapters- largely terrible and several things you describe are also on the list of symptoms so if you can get a proper miniSD (mobile phone shops tend to have them for old models of phones) then do so. Failing that your local amazon appears to have them.

Thanks for the response. I am certainly aware of the detrimental use of micro to mini sd adaptors and that they are often the weak link when using the EZ Flash IV (though slightly concerned that once I put a mini sd card in there it is never coming out – different discussion perhaps), but why would the destination card have any bearing on the EZ4Client software? The problem is manifesting before transfer so is the problem not with the ROM / software? As you mentioned that the software maintains a database of all the games, and certainly the ones I am having difficulties with, it would seem that perhaps the ROM is the issue. I will source an alternative and see if that makes any difference.

Never mind. I must have downloaded an older version of the EZ4Client, as the link you provided, when downloaded, seems to have resolved the issue. Now all ROMs are being recognised.

Thanks for your help.
