I finally got my EzIV today!

I've been playing around with it and so far things have gone smoothly, although haven't tested many games yet.

But now I have a new question. I've read that EzIV can play video files. Could anybody explain to me how that works and how do I set it up?

install moonshell, it's in the rar/7z file of the client, to install only put the moonshell.gba file into the main folder of the SD, the videos must be converted with dpgtools, enjoy

You need to use their version of moonshell that should be in the client directory. Have a look around for encoding video using the dpg tools (which can be found along with the other downloads here: http://sosuke.com/ezflash/viewtopic.php?t=719)

Ok thank you for the help, but I need some more

I tried converting a vido file to an dpg and installed moonshell

Moonshell runs fine but when I try to run de dpg video I get a scren with a lot of info like this

ScreenRatio x1.000000
FreeMem=32768byte
FreeMem=32768byte
Movie 35961frames 23.972656fos
Sound 32000HZ 0Chs
Movie 24007140->0bytes
Audio 36->24007104bytes
Request ARM7 mp2 decode
ScreenRatio x0.000000
safefree Request NullPointer.

But nothing else happens, am I doing something wrong?

It should be working at that point... what were your settings when you converted the movie, and did you have any errors relating to codecs?

Can anyone else confirm that the current build of moonshell is working fine for DPG video?

The codec used for sound might not work with the program. It is showing 0 channels. You might want to reencode the movie with Virtual Dub and try again.

Silly me, I hadn't notice the option that said to reencode de video. Once I recoded the video it played fine. Well it skips when there's a lot of movement on screen and I probably need to mess around with the settings a bit, but it's cool. :D

My EZ4 should be winging its way to me soon and I will set up a bunch of AVIsynth stuff to use, do some testing and find the limits and then redo the multimedia page then: http://www.sosuke.com/ezflash/wiki/index.php/Multimedia

Video encoding is a serious task and takes monster resources to do (one of the few reasons people even learn ASM to code for PC's anymore).

What I will say is reencode your video to uncompressed (both audio and video) store it in a avi container and convert it then.

Well I tried what you said fast but the result didn't show a great improvement in quality and I got no sound. But I did find out that droping the framerate to 12fps eliminated the skipping while keeping the video reasonably smooth.

Now I'm trying to figure out how to increase the volume since it's a bit low, the enconder has a volume slider but it won't move.

Also does anybody know where I can find some documantation on how moonshell works? I haven't made much of it aside from playing the files.

After playing a longer video I noticed that the sound has become unsynced, it isn't noticable till like after around 10 minutes into the video.

Is the sound coming before the video or after? I've never used the converter but there may be an option to change the sound frequency. If there is not then what you will have to do is output the sound as a wav from a program like Virtual Dub and then reencode the sound stream so it matches the frequency the video converter uses. Hope you understood all that. A-V stuff on computers can be complicated.

The sound starts to come before the video. It doesn't let you change the sound frecuency but it does have a list of different sound encoders, I'm going to see how they make a difference.

Well yeah, changing the encoder did solve the sound problem. I think I've finally found the settings to get a decent result.

Post them here so others can follow what you've done.

You can also go edit the wiki with the information as well. If you're not comfortable editing the wiki, then post the stuff here and I'm sure FAST will add it in. He seems to love the wiki :)

Well here's what worked for me

Audio options
Sample Rate 32000 Hz
Bitrate 128 kbps
Volume 100% (Won't let me change it)
use extractwave.exe DirectShow normal method 128kbyte/block (Using the default encoder didn't sync the sound)

Re-encode video stream
video options
Video Width 256 pixels
Video Aspect Ratio Auto Detect
Video Bitrate 256 kbps
Video Frame rate 12fps
Video Brightness 110% (Although I guess this one depends on the source video)
Blur 95% (Although I haven't messed with this yet)

I think it's better that someone who knows more about this should edit the wiki, I'm just on trial and error here. But I hope my experience helps others. :)
