I recently aquired a EZ3 4 gigger from Jandaman.

Everything works great except for one thing, I cannot format it to use the full 4 gigs of space.

Initially, I accidently formatted it using the default (512M Bytes) Capacity. Realizing the error of my ways, I began to reformat it but was unable to find a (4000M Bytes) option in the dropdown? So I decided to see what happens when I format it under the next available option of (1024M Bytes) but this ended in the same result, 512 MB of available space. So in my final attempt... I manually typed in (4096M bytes), began the format... and guess what... only 512MB of space available :-).... DAMMIT

How do I take advantge of my 4GIG Capacity? Ive been seaching the forums but was unable to find anyone with a similer problem... Am I overlooking something?

HELP!

You have a 4Gbit card. I.E. 4096Mbits.

There is 8megabits in one megabyte so 4096/8 = 512mbytes.

So its just a case of lost in Tranlation I suppose...
4 GIGS is not literally 4 gigs as it would be on my PC?

Correct.

Back it the 80's (early 80's) console companies decided that their games and consoles would sound so much more powerful, so much bigger, and so much better if they rated things in bits as opposed to bytes.

So the stupidity began.

20+ years later and we're still doing it and it's still confusing people.

The EZFlash carts, like most others, are rated in bits, not bytes. So 4Gbits is 4096Mbits which is as stated 512Mbytes.

We even stickied this question.

LOL... I get it now.. I assumed it was gigaBYTES...so its 4 gigabits... That totally makes sense now. Man I was wondering why it seemed so cheap.

OK... thanks for clearing this up Everthing works great, loaded a heap of Roms on my GBmicro... and It it totally rocks!

Thanks for dealing with my temporary ignorance!
