Ok. I think it's time to bring back this post, so skinners knows how to create their splash screen.
Have you noticied the folder boot in /EZ5shell ?
It's here that you can change the top and bottom splash screen (booting_bottom.bin & booting_up.bin).
It's also here that you can find the splash.ani played at kernel start.

Now it's quite simple to create your how splash screen.
- Build a picture that is 256x192 and save it in PNG or BMP format
- download the tool from Moonlight glib, png2b15.exe
- convert your pictures with this tool
- rename .bin file into booting_bottom.bin & booting_up.bin
- copy/replace files in folder /EZ5shell/boot

That's it

Nope. I've done exactly what he said but, if i boot the EZVi (RC7 Kernel and v12 Firmware) i see the 2 blue Bootscreens, then the upper Screen changes to the next blue screen and the animation appears, only on the bottom screen i can see shortly one of my Pictures i have set.

So there are 4 Bootscreens and one Animation if i count right. Only 1 lower Bootscreen (the second) is replaceable.

What am i doning wrong?

P.S.: I've setted the "Color-Key" option to "None" during the convert.

The 2 very first splash screens are in the bootloader and cannot be changed.
Now about kernel's boot screen. If there is a splash.ani in the folder they are not displayed.
Delete the animation and you are done.

Deleting the .ani solves the problem - many thanks! :)

is it those boots screens are possible to change
if you can hexedit the firmware binaries??
or are they permanently trapped inside the hardware??

Yeah it's possible but only on ez5 v1 and v2. But it's extremely risky to modify a bootloader file because you can brick your flashcart if it's wrongly made, so don't even try it.

i used to do this all the time with my EZ3
can change any text and customise the OS even more

you will also cause problems if you didnt obey 1 rule:=
only replace characters
never shift length or add more spaces
only replace text already there

never had a problem
and i bet the same is possible with EZ5 RC9 firmware

IF the pics are in the kernel
they can be changed via hexedit
without causing any damage at all
