Hey, like many others that come to these forums I am a complete novice in regards to the use of flash carts and homebrew. I'm using an EZ Flash IV and I am looking for help so that I might be able to play and save (with save states or anything) nes, gb, and gbc games. The first resource I used for info pertaining to the EZ Flash IV was a tutorial series on youtube... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGyaNA848nQ&feature=relmfu ) by WildWolfG. He provides a solution for getting all of the various types of games I want to work to operate on the GBA but he fails at getting gameboy, gameboy color, and nes games to save properly. After watching the videos I came here and realized there were some very different methods of getting GB GBC and NES games to work and save, the most notable forum on the subject seeming to be on PocketNES, Goomba, Cologne, and SMSAdvance sram and exit path http://ezflash.sosuke.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=12660 but I don't understand the process by which to patch the games. I was hoping there was a way I could implement WildWolfG's method along with using the SRAM patches to get GB GBC and NES games to work, but if someone could elaborate on the steps necessary to do so it would be greatly appreciated. I would prefer to have single roms rather than multi so that advice would help too.
Thanks in advance, you guys do some amazing work on this forum from all that I've read, especially in regard to patching and helping out noobs like me, so, thanks again!
General idea is add in the pocketnes and goomba.gba files from the download above wherever they want to be (usually in the same directory) and use the programs (they are fairly simple to operate just to get things built) and make a new larger GBA file (remember it can be 16 megs or smaller and depending upon the games and their saves you might want to break it down further than that- even if you can fit 16 megs of roms in there might not be enough save space on the GBA setup) before copying the files and making a save file by hand (kuwanger included some basic files you can copy)- no need for EZ4client.
Back on topic the main link is a and some of the others have a couple python scripts to build the GBA files. Python is a programming language well suited to making simple scripts to edit and tweak things like this, as they are in script form you will need either the python interpreter (one of the 2.? line would be best for this)- http://www.python.org/download/ or to have it built into an exe files (py2exe being the main method of choice here) before running it from the command line.
